I was recently delighted to see that there are now numerous online games where kids can have fun and learn to cook. This appears to be a skill that is not often taught in the home so hopefully these great games can fill in where parents dont have the time to teach their kids. Not only are the kids having fun with these games learning a skill and also learning how to keep healthy.
Every time you turn on the TV there seems to be a new cookery programme to watch or a new one being advertised to start soon. They are hugely popular so can be found on almost every channel; and the repeats are just as popular as the original. The celebrity chefs who appear can show you how to make simple or more complicated dishes that will appeal to young or old alike and they get great spin offs by being able to advertise their own restaurants or books for free on the program.
Some of these chefs really focus on preparing food that is healthy and that wont make us pile on the extra unwanted pounds and this idea is what the online games seem to follow. Others show us what a good idea it is to grow our own food so that we can have access to fresh fruit and vegetables all year round. Its a good point and one in their favour that their recipes involve all cuts of meat and not just the expensive ones that are either hard to come by in the supermarket or far too expensive for a mum with a large hungry family to feed.
Another good point is that we are shown how to experiment with our own recipes and not just follow one that some one else has devised. Learning to use fresh herbs and spices and knowing which will compliment a particular meat or vegetable, will enable people to adapt recipes to their own taste. Again, exactly what the new online games teach the kids; they can have fun and learn to cook healthy food.
The number of these programmes on the TV speaks for their popularity, yet in spite of all the efforts of the celebrity chefs to teach us whats good for us, the population in this country and many other places in the world are getting fatter and a high percentage are now obese. They watch and listen but perhaps are too idle to put their learning into practice. Perhaps we should look to the next generation to improve matters. But who will teach them.
Well they no longer have to depend on overweight parents, there are now numerous online games where kids can have fun and learn to cook. In these games kids can learn to make a perfect Spaghetti Bolognese or a delicious Apple pie. They discover what ingredients are needed and where they can obtain them. Yeas they can actually go through the entire process themselves online and prepare whatever dish they like. Even if its a simpler meal like a Cheeseburger with French fries and salad, it can all be achieved online. However, you still have to be careful that you dont let your food burn.
Lets hope that while they have fun learning to cook that they will learn some good eating habits too.
